Lollapalooza Recap: Pearl Jam and more

Now that it’s Monday morning and we’ve had time to absorb the weekend, and some of the exhaustion from yesterday’s heat, we can look back at the good stuff from the weekend and what perplexed us.

First we’ll talk Pearl Jam. Besides the really spotty sound and “hit” filled setlist, the band did a good job of engaging the crowd, even while Eddie preached a bit too much. If we could’ve heard the badn more clearly (the sound was muddy and not as loud as other acts) it could’ve been one of their better shows. You could tell they had energy and Eddie’s voice was near flawless.

Lollapalooza Day 3 My Morning Jacket

We lucked out and the thunder clouds and tornado warning passed without a drop of rain. My Morning Jacket played a good set and had the crowd recordone song with their cells and digital cameras and then submit them online for the group to compile for a video. They had the Chicago youth symphony on stage for the set as well which as interesting when you could hear them.

It is also now packed and every inch of grass on our hill is filled. All those folks making fun of Pearl Jam leading up to this show surely underestimated their draw.

Lollapalooza Day 3 Getting Ready for Pearl Jam

Day three starts with high heat and humidity. This has to be the most excruciating day so far this year. We've camped out atop the east hill by the stage where Pearl Jam will play. Idon't think we'll move simply to reserve energy. Right now Blue October is playing on the other stage and they're ok. I haven't really heard them before.

Rain at Lollpalooza

Of course we waited all day for Spoon and it started pouring midway into their set. We stuck it out for a few more songs then headed home. We listened to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs but I've never been impressed with them and still remain ambivalent.

Spoon we liked though, and on this side of the park the stages are elevated.

Lollapalooza Day 2 Hold Steady

Regina Spektor was so bad we left. it takes a while to get from one side of the fest to the other though so The Hold Steady was still playing on the MySpace stage where we wanted to camp out for Spoon.

The Hold Steady was interesting in a weird way. Courtney just said they sound like Bob Mould meets the Barenaked Ladies. I think she nailed that one. I also scoped out where we need to sit for Pearl Jam tomorrow.

Perry is now prsonally introducing the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. whoopdeedoo.

Lollapalooza Live Day 2 The Roots

The Roots were really good and drew a pretty huge crowd. I noticed that it seems like a pretty old crowd with few teenagers which seems odd.

Everyone seemed to want to see the roots though. I scored at the drink tent getting a seven dollar beer and two dollar ice tea for five dollars thanks to the server.

What am I doing now? Listening to Regina Spector blow. She seriously doesn't have the amps on. So even though we should be able to hear her just fine she's inaudible and the next stage over is booming, which we shouldn't be able to hear.

Lollapalooza Day 2 Live Review

Courtney is now napping, with earplugs, as STS9 plays non stop grooves. It's a live band with dj but nothing really inspiring. You can totaly hear the next stage over too.

We also made it through a short sprinkle of rain. It stopped and it feels much more humid. Yay. More after the roots. sorry for the crappy photos, a mix of apathy and bad cell camera.
